Rappelling for cancer

The company’s attitude to community service goes well beyond “good works in your spare time.” It includes active encouragement to get involved in effort that makes a difference.

With that in mind it’s hard to imagine what it took to get people to step off the top of a building, but that’s exactly what happened in Denver a couple of years back.

Some Zachry Engineering employees rappelled down 28 floors from the roof of a downtown Denver high rise to raise money for the Cancer League of Colorado. Everyone involved had a personal connection to the cause. And if that wasn’t reason enough to gear up Vice President, Engineering Development Bob Gresham volunteered to go over the edge with the rest of the team — about as real an example of “walking the walk” as you can get.
